Mount Rushmore





Mount Rushmore National Memorial is visited by nearly three million people each year that come to marvel at the majestic beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota and learn about the birth, growth, development and preservation of the country. From the history of the first inhabitants to the diversity of America today, Mount Rushmore brings visitors face to face with the rich heritage we all share.Mount Rushmore, Washington, Jefferson, T. Busy times: July and August, especially days. Mornings and late afternoons are less crowded.

No overnight accomodations. Campsites are available around the vicinity.

Evening program: 45 minute program focusing on the presidents, patriotism and the nations history. Ranger talk (10 minutes), film Freedom: American's Lasting Legacy (20 minutes) ends with lighting memorial. Concludes with flag ceremony.

Two shopping venues: gift shop and bookstore.

Suggested time needed: half day + evening program if you wish.

$11 parking fee. They accept Visa or Mastercard.

You can bring food to the park but there are no picnic tables.

Weather: warm days and cool nights. May need a light jacket at night. Afternoon or evening thundershowers are common in July and August. On occasion fog may obscure any view of the memorial.
